Appropriation of rooms The kitchen Ventilation Pooja or Meditation Room Toilets Dining     Appropriation of rooms   The kitchen selection of room for kitchen should satisfy the following qualities:   1 It should possess hygienic properties. There should be provision of opening to receive early cosmic rays. The early rays contain low-level ultraviolet rays, which kills bacteria and avoid small insects to grow inside the kitchen. 2 Should receive early and evening infrared rays for drying up the room, vegetables, and wet vessels. 3 The container of water and liquids should receive early sunrays to undergo dis-infective process for drinking and cooking purposes of the dwellers of the house. 4 The smoke that contains CO2 and other harmful gases from oven and greasy vapors from heated vessels should be exhausted and there should be provision to get fresh air. The kitchen need a minimum of 10 air changes per hour as per the table “ventilation” which is the maximum value in residential buildings.   Ventilation The house should be designed for better ventilation. The usual problems that occur because of poor ventilation, condensation and stale air are most common problems. The steam from kitchen or bathroom catches relatively cooler surfaces around the house and condenses on it. And seals on windows and openings and reduces natural ventilation. It causes structural damages and damps the wood and cloth surfaces. Stale air can be caused by Cooking smells and smoke from kitchen and odors and foul smell from bathroom and toilets due to poor ventilation. This will cause respiratory problems and discomfort to the inmates. As per scientific experiments buildings require to be designed for better performance according to the type of room. Minimum air changes per hour for particular rooms are given below in the table. The oven to burn the fuel will directly consume oxygen present in the house. But in the case of southeast, northwest, and east, the air (oxygen) will be easily cross-ventilated. For this reason Vaasthu Scientists prohibited the kitchen in northeast corner. Modern architects adopted a new guide for measuring the efficiency of kitchen. They have assumed a triangle called working triangle created by connecting three major traffic lines by the cook. The major workstations are storage (freezer and fridge) cleaning area (sink or dishwasher) and cooking station (oven or microwave).   They recommended the minimum distance of 3 feet and maximum distance of 9 feet between two major station of kitchen and the accumulative distance should not be less than 12 feet and should not more than 25 feet. These recommendations will help the users in designing effective kitchen with less trips and walk between the major workstations. The kitchens are categorized according to the shape and space available, position of entrance and exit and the number of inmates.     Pooja or Meditation Room   Pooja or meditation room should possess these following qualities:     1 It should be located in east face in order to receive early sunrays and to perform ritual. 2 It should be nearer or located in north face of the building as central north portion emits Electro magnetic waves. 3 Ancient rishis divided the time into three parts namely sathva, raja, and thama. Sathva relates to divinity, raja relates to human needs and thama relates to base and sex.   Sathva time period relates to divine powers and ultimate reality. Sathva period starts from 4 a.m. and reaches peak at 8 a.m. and gradually decreases its intensity and become zero at 12 noon. Sages suggest us to perform Pooja or meditation will have great divine assistance at this time (4 a.m. to 8 a.m.). At the same time dwellers have to receive early cosmic rays and takes sun tanning benefits. Pooja or meditation room should possess these following qualities:     4 Vaasthu Scientists chose northeast corner to fulfil all the qualities of Pooja room.     Toilet   Toilets should be located in such way that all the foul smell ventilated in natural way. It should be serene, undisturbed, and cornered. The sludge and sewage should easily drain out. Northwest corner holds good to suit all the requirements. Southeast corner is the second best and the room in-between south and southwest is the third option. The toilet in residential buildings needs a minimum air change of 3 as per the table “ventilation.” Vaasthu Scholars located the toilet in-between south and southwest direction only when the central courtyard kept open.     Dining Dining hall should have following qualities:   Pooja or meditation room should possess these following qualities:     1 Located where the digestion will be most healthy. 2 Dining room needs a minimum air change of 3 as per the table “ventilation.”
